Sky Buffalo is John Somosi’s artisan workshop. John is a master drum maker and creator of fine leather goods with 30 years of experience in creating the finest quality items.
John is Metis from Saskatchewan whose heralded work has been sold across the globe. John is a professional singer and traditional ceremony keeper, he follows Anishinaabe traditions and brings experiences gained from many years of sharing with and learning from elders from all over Turtle Island and internationally.
As an artisan, John learned drum making many years ago and has spent his lifetime honing and perfecting the creation of fine instruments. John has built thousands of drums that have been used for ceremonial and educational purposes from 200 drums at a time for school boards, to custom drums for traditional peoples.
John is a capable educator with 25 years of teaching workshops from drumming, to drum making, to leather craft. John has worked with several school boards, agencies and organizations, and in a grassroots capacity to extend his knowledge of craft and ceremony to many, many people.
